Job skills

Growing in value

  • Field investigation and interviewing claimants
  • Building evidence that stands up in court
  • Qualifying alerts from detection models
  • Analysing networks of linked claims

Losing value

  • Manual screening of claims against red flags
  • Cross-checking documents and databases by hand
  • Writing routine investigation summaries

How the job will change

Detection is the part AI changes most. Models score every claim on arrival, spot forged or edited documents and photos, and reveal links between policyholders, garages, witnesses and addresses that a manual review would miss. Analysts spend less time screening files and more time sorting alerts, many of which turn out to be false positives.

Investigation itself stays human: interviewing a policyholder, checking a story on site, working with the police or a lawyer, deciding whether to refuse a claim. A good fraud specialist tomorrow will question a model's alert, build evidence that holds up in court and respect privacy rules, since automated suspicion of customers is a sensitive area for regulators.

2026-2027
Systematic claim scoring and detection of falsified documents.
2028-2030
Network analysis widespread, investigators focus on qualified alerts.
2031+
Less screening, investigators facing organised fraud that also uses AI.
Watch out

Fraudsters use generative AI too, producing convincing fake invoices, photos and medical documents. The risk is under-staffing investigation on the assumption that detection tools are enough. See the seniority outlook below.

How the numbers are built

Every headcount figure combines four assumptions. Three come pre-filled from public research and job family defaults. The strategic ceiling is yours to set.
